Abstract

A literary work that contains many social messages and is currently quite popular is the Novel &quotEducated&quot by Tara Westover. This novel is a memoir published in 2018, about the life of the author (Tara Westover) who grew up in a very conservative Mormon family in Idaho, United States. The Westovers live in an environment that isolates them from the outside world, which includes avoiding public schools and medical services. Tara Westover grew up in a family that avoided formal education and medical services, and lived in isolation from the outside world. This novel shows how religion and beliefs can affect one&#039s social life, especially if the family is very conservative and not open to changes or different thoughts. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. The research procedure carried out consisted of several stages, namely starting from reading and understanding the data, searching and classifying data, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study found that based on the results of the analysis it showed that the social values contained in Tarawestover&#039s Edicate novel were the values of mutual help, the values of dedication, the values of discipline, the values of democracy, the values of tolerance, the values of responsibility and the values of kinship.
